Foxy Brown Sentenced To Three Years' Probation |
A Manhattan judge sentenced Foxy Brown to three years probation today (October 24), bringing an end to the rapper's two year court battle over misdemeanor assault charges stemming from a 2004 brawl in a Manhattan nail salon.
Brown (whose real name is Inga Marchand), failed to appear for a court hearing yesterday, where Judge Melissa C. Jackson was scheduled to review several motions in the case, including one from Brown requesting to withdraw a guilty plea she entered this August.
Judge Jackson denied that motion, deciding the plea agreement was legitimate; she also threatened to invoke a warrant for Brown's arrest if she failed to appear in court today for sentencing.
When Foxy appeared in court today with her attorney and bodyguard, she appealed to the judge for a final time.
"I'm innocent," Brown was quoted saying in Associated Press reports, before claiming that she felt pressured to rush into the plea agreement, adding that a previous lawyer had told her she'd face jail time unless she accepted the deal for probation.
In the end Jackson decided the agreement from August was legitimate, rejecting Brown's request for a two-week extension and new arguments, before imposing the originally agreed upon sentence of three years probation and anger management classes."The purpose of a re-argument is not to let the parties go over issues that have
already decided," Jackson was quoted Associated Press reports.
Brown was also cautioned that if she fails to meet the conditions of her probation she will face a possible one year sentence in jail.
In August the Brooklyn bombshell plead guilty to misdemeanor assault charges for kicking one Bloomie Nails worker and hitting a second employee in the face on August 29, 2004 when an argument over payment for a manicure Brown said she never received turned ugly.

Busta Rhymes Not Charged For Weapon Possesion |
Busta Rhymes stood silently in a Manhattan courtroom as the judge ruled in his favor.
Rhymes will not be charged with weapon possesion - a machete found inside an SUV following his August arrest on an assault charge.
Rhymes, whose legal name is Trevor Smith, said nothing during the hearing. But he took a minute to tell the courtroom sketch artists,"I love it when you make me look good."
He left the courthouse in a crush of photographers, camera crews and reporters, climbing into a black SUV. Rhymes was charged with assault after he allegedly attacked a man for spitting on his car on Aug. 12. He is due back in court on the assault charge on Dec. 11.
According to prosecutor Harrison Scheiloch, the machete was found in the rear seat pocket of an SUV in which Rhymes was a passenger when he was arrested following a performance at the Amsterjam Music Festival on Randall's Island.
Busta's most recent album was the "The Big Bang," released earlier this year, featuring the hit single "Touch It."

Fabolous Hires Investigator To Obtain Details In Shooting |
Fabolous' lawyer, Alberto Ebanks, revealed to The New York Post that the Brooklyn bred rapper has hired private investigators to obtain more details surrounding his shooting, arrest and the robbery of Boston Celtics player Sebastian Telfair.
Faboulus was shot and wounded in his right thigh early Tuesday morning (October 17), while exiting Sean "Diddy" Combs' Justin's Restaurant in Manhattan, NY .
When his entourage attempted to leave the scene and rush him to the hospital, Fabolous and his associates were stopped by the NYPD. The car was searched and guns were allegedly found. Fabolous and three other men, were then arrested and charged for having unregistered, loaded weapons in their vehicle.
Reports would later surface that surveillance video captured two members of Fabolous' entourage robbing Telfair for his chain outside Justin's minutes before the rapper was shot.
The sources claimed Telfair saw the men inside Justin's and made a cell phone call. The security camera also reportedly captured Fab's shooter leaving in a grey car.
Telfair, who has viewed several lineups which included Fabolous and his three associates, denied Friday that that he is under investigation for Fabolous' shooting."I wasn't being investigated for any shooting," he said at the Celtics' practice facility in Waltham, Mass. "My necklace was snatched from my neck."
Ebanks told the Post that Fab's move to hire the investigators is a bid to clear the weapons-possession charges."He was shot;" said Ebanks. "I think that's the classic definition of a victim"
According to The New York Post, investigators were looking at video footage from the parking lot outside Justin's, but said the tapes were very dark and grainy and would likely be "of little use'.

Police Consider Charges Against Snoop After Airport Incident In Sept. |
Superstar rapper Snoop Dogg may be facing criminal charges, after airport officials found a 21 inch collapsible baton in one of his bags last month, as he boarded a flight headed for New York.
According to reports, officials found the baton in Snoop Dogg's laptop case, as the rapper attempted to pass through a security check point John Wayne International Airport, located in Orange County, CA.
Snoop, born Calvin Broadus, told police the 21 inch baton was a prop for a movie he is currently filming.
In May of 2005, Snoop accepted responsibility for a brawl in London's Heathrow airport.
Snoop, 34 and five men in his entourage were arrested during the airport incident, which started when people traveling with the rapper were denied entry to British Airways' first-class lounge.
Seven officers were injured during the fracas, which resulted in Snoop being banned from flying British Airways.

Mobb Deep Dodges Near Death on Flight |
Mobb Deep, Infamous Records artist 40 Glocc and Sam Scarfo early Saturday were apart of an emergency plane landing after one of the vehicle's engines exploded in mid air.
"All I can say is God was on our side," said Havoc, Mobb Deep's resident producer.

Judge Warns Foxy Brown Not To Miss Sentencing |
Foxy Brown will be arrested and thrown in jail if the 27-year-old rapper misses her sentencing on assault charges, a judge said Monday.
Foxy Brown, failed to appear in Criminal Court on Monday. Her attorney, Frank Rothman, said Brown was recovering at home from a dental procedure.
"I don't take this kindly," said Judge Melissa C. Jackson. "I don't believe she is incapable of being here."
Jackson rejected a motion by Brown to withdraw her guilty plea and said the sentencing would be held Tuesday. The judge said that if Brown failed to show up, a plea deal sparing her jail time would be voided and she would be sentenced to a year behind bars.
Rothman said Brown would appear. "She's showing no disrespect," he told the judge.
Foxy Brown pleaded guilty in August in New York court to misdemeanor assault charges stemming from a 2004 fight with salon workers over a manicure.
The plea deal spares her jail time but requires her to serve three years probation and take anger management classes.

Ras Kass Diss Towards Game Causes More Beef - With Crocodile Hunter's Manager |
The manager of Australia's slain "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin has slammed American rap singer Ras Kass for alluding to a stingray death while taking a swipe at a rival rapper in his new song.
Ras Kass took aim at fellow rap artist The Game with a lyrical reference to Irwin's dramatic September 4 death, in which he was stung in the heart by a stingray's tail-barb as he snorkeled off the Great Barrier Reef.
During the track, Kass takes aim at The Game with the line"You're the waste of LA/get blast up in LA/face down, ass up in LA/you the
Crocodile Hunter, I am the stingray,".
Irwin's longtime friend and manager John Stanton hit out at the line, saying it was "sad" and "disappointing"."I just find it a bit sad that people have to stoop to that. It is
disappointing. I can't understand the point of it. There are other references they can make that will put the point across.
"I just think it is a pity that people do have to use Steve or anyone who has died in
tragic circumstances... as a form of entertainment," he said.

**UPDATE** Lil' Wayne Banned From Morgan State For Money Tossing Incident |
BALTIMORE - Campus police at Morgan State University are considering whether to pursue criminal charges against rapper Lil' Wayne after someone threw money into a crowd during a performance, causing a melee that left three young women injured. It was unclear whether Lil' Wayne or a member of his entourage flung the bills into the crowd, said university Police Chief Adrian Wiggins. The artist will not be invited back to the campus, university officials said.
"It was as dangerous a thing to do as standing in a crowded movie theater and shouting, 'Fire,'" said Clinton Coleman, a Morgan State spokesman.
Coleman said the majority of the cash consisted of $1 bills, but there were some $5, $10 and $20 bills.
Two women, both age 20, suffered leg injuries and were taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital. One was identified by school officials as Carlissa Dixon, a junior at the university. A third was injured but refused medical treatment.
The concert Thursday night at the university's Hill Field House, which holds about 4,000 people, also featured Busta Rhymes and was sold out
Vickie Charles, Lil' Wayne's publicist at Universal Music Group, did not respond to messages left by The (Baltimore) Sun seeking comment.

Fabolous Album Moved Up To December After Arrest, Shooting |
Fabolous Album Moved Up To December After Arrest, Shooting
After having a torrid affair with news headlines this week, Fabolous is putting out some new music.
Def Jam, Fab's record label, confirmed that the rapper's new LP will drop December 26, with a single coming even sooner. On Tuesday morning, Fabolous was shot in a parking garage and then arrested on his way to the hospital for having firearms in the vehicle (see "Fabolous Shot And Arrested In New York" and "Fabolous Didn't Know He Was Riding With Guns, Attorney Says").
The album is being fast-tracked in the wake of his recent drama. Just two weeks ago, Fab told MTV Radio that he wanted his LP to come out in February because of the jam-packed holiday season."The album is called From Nothing to Something," Fab said on the VH1 Hip-Hop Honors red carpet earlier this month (see "Lil' Kim, MC Lyte Put Female MCs Center Stage At Hip-Hop Honors"). "That's the movement we going with, man.
For everybody that's trying to turn nothing into something, we're trying to make motivational music for them. Every song is hot on the album. A standout record is a record me and Akon did called 'Change Up.'
It's about getting your money, and certain people think you change but it's not always you. Your income changed, but you didn't change as a person."
Fabolous was shot Tuesday morning in front of Diddy's Justin's restaurant and was subsequently hit with two gun charges because of a weapon found in the car taking him to the hospital. New York's Daily News reported Friday (October 20) that a surveillance tape caught the incident on tape and shows Fab's shooter getting away. An NYPD spokesperson refused to confirm or deny the Daily News story, saying the matter is still under investigation.

Rapper Ali Tasered By Police Officer |
St. Lunatic member Ali, was subdued with a Taser by a Hazelwood police officer after a Saturday afternoon traffic stop.
The rapper, 34, said he was handcuffed in the back seat of the squad car when he was tased repeatedly and threatened by the arresting officer.
"He gets out, opens the backdoor and he tases me over and over," Ali told local
TV station KSDK Channel 5. "I was afraid. I had a bowel movement on myself, he
tased me so long. You see my back, he tased me 35 times over and over and he
held it every time."
Ali accuses the officer of stunning him multiple times without provocation, while a police department release said Ali had resisted arrest and kicked the arresting officer.
Ali also claimed the officer, who is white, made several racist comments during the incident, which sent Ali to a local hospital after he lost feeling in his right fingers and arm.
According to Ali, the officer threatened him because he and fellow St. Lunatic members Murphy Lee, Cornell (Nelly), Kyjuan and Slodown, are planning to open a restaurant in the area named Mack's Bar and Grill.
"I've got to get a restraining order," Ali said. "He said if he sees me anywhere
around here, he's going to do something. He'll shoot me, he told me he'll shoot
me."
Hazelwood police said in a department release that Ali was driving on an expired license and when the officer attempted to arrest him, he resisted arrest, damaged the patrol car and kicked the arresting officer.
He was released on $1500 bond.

Rhymefest Heads To The UK To Meet With Conservative Party Leader |
Chicago rapper Rhymefest will act as an international spokesman for Hip-Hop culture when he meets with Conservative Party leader David Cameron over "a cup of tea", in United Kingdom Thursday (Oct.19).
Cameron criticized BBC's Radio 1 during a British Society of Magazine Editors event last June, accusing the station of playing music that "encourages people to carry guns and knives."
Rhymefest, 29, asked the Conservative leader for a “summit” in a bid to solve hip-hop’s image problem.
But Rhymefest admitted to contributing to the gangsta hype.
His letter said:"My challenge, is to ask that you sit down and have a cup of tea with me," Rhymefest wrote. "In fact, let me come and perform for you. I am sure you will see that rap music is more than murder music or knife culture.
"If you truly believe this is a democracy then sit down and discuss with me the issues that you see. And if you are correct, and your opinion of rap music is the same, then we should come together with the community; rappers, politicians and radio DJs, and have a wider discussion...because, Mr Cameron, this generalisation is not all of us, it’s just a few bad apples that spoil the bunch...let’s solve the problem of the rap community in a civilised way and in a way that music can still be.
According to Rhymefest, reporters from MTV and the BBC will cover the meeting.

Lil' Eazy E Inks Deal With Blackround, Plans To Rep Compton On New Album |
Eric "Lil' Eazy-E" Wright, son of the late Eazy-E, hopes to be the next rap delegate of Compton, Calif., and now he's well on his way.
The 22-year-old rapper recently inked a deal with Blackground/Universal and is currently preparing his debut album Prince of Compton, due early next year.
Lil' Eazy-E, who was 10-years-old when his father died, said the disc will boast collaborations with Timbaland, Dr. Dre, DJ Yella, and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, among others.

**UPDATE** Cassidy Remains in Critical Condition |
Philadelphia rapper Cassidy remains in critical condition at Jersey City Medical Center, six days after a traffic accident in which he suffered severe head injuries, a publicist for his record label said.
Cassidy, 23, is said to have suffered a fractured skull and several fractured facial bones in the Jersey City accident. Yesterday, broken car parts and shattered glass were still at the spot of Wednesday night's accident.
Theola Borden, a publicist for J Records, said Cassidy was in critical condition but is expected to survive.
"We don't know whether he is in an induced coma or heavily sedated," she said
yesterday. "The results of a CAT scan were okay."
Borden said friends and relatives were at the rapper's bedside.
"Other rappers, such as Remy Ma, have called and asked to visit, but I think
they're just allowing close family members and friends to visit," Borden said.
"He's on the same label as Swizz Beatz, who I'm sure has been over to visit."
The Philadelphia rapper reportedly was passing through Jersey City on his way to New York to continue work on his third album, slated for release later this year.
The man whose truck slammed into rapper Cassidy in Jersey City has been issued a summons for making an improper turn, police said yesterday.
The ticket was issued to Javier Trujillo Gonzalez, 36, of Carson City, Mich., following the crash on Tonnelle Avenue near Manhattan Avenue at 12:02 a.m. Thursday, reports said.
Cassidy was heading to a recording studio in New York to work on an upcoming album when the crash occurred, said his lawyer, Simon Rosen.
"He has multiple fractures of his face," Rosen said. "He has a nasty scar from
his ear to the corner of his mouth. He's on sedation to keep him from moving,
and to keep him out of pain.
"It's scary looking, but he's a very strong
young man," Rosen added. "He's a fighter. He'll come through this."
Cassidy was in the back seat of a Chevrolet Suburban driven by Gerald Shahid, 43, of California. Shahid told police he was driving south on Tonnelle Avenue and Gonzalez was going north in a GMC pickup truck, reports said.
The pickup took the County Road jughandle, ran the red light and crossed into the intersection, broadsiding the SUV, according to police reports.
All five people in the two vehicles were injured and were taken to local hospitals, but only Cassidy sustained serious injuries, Rosen said.

Nas Works With Dre, Kanye & Just Blaze |
"All respect to all rappers on Def Jam, I love the label. Without disrespect,I'm about to be the craziest shit on Def Jam. But that should go without
saying," Nas told MTV of his upcoming LP Hip Hop Is Dead.
The Queensbridge emcee is working with nothing but A-list producers for the album, though many feared it would lead to more of a pop sound rather than his street shit his core fans love. Though all reports say the album is his grittiest in years. Along with Will.i.am, Scott Storch and Chris Webber (yes, that Chris Webber), Nas has production from Dr. Dre, Just Blaze, Kanye West. All of whom, Nas claims to have their top notch work.
This marks the first time in a decade that Nas has a Dre beat on a solo album, and the first collaboration since The Firm project in 97. "Since then, I hadn't seen Dre, but I bumped into him in a studio and he said he was ready to do my whole album right there on the spot. I just knocked out the joint I did with him," Nas said of the collaboration. The song, which is called QB True G, also features The Game.
"Game is a megastar, man," said Nas. "That nigga shut down a whole crew by
himself. That's big." The album drops on December 5th.

China Cancels Jay-Z's Shanghai Concert |
The Culture Ministry has canceled rapper Jay-Z's planned debut in China, citing his 'vulgar' lyrics, a state-run newspaper reported Wednesday.
The rap icon, whose real name is Shawn Carter, was scheduled to perform on Oct. 23 at Shanghai's Hongkou Stadium.
'Some of Jay-Z's songs contain too much vulgar language,' Sun Yun, of promoter
KS Production Co., was quoted as saying in the Shanghai Daily newspaper.
The New York rapper's use of profanity and songs about drug dealers, pimps and violence apparently offended China's culture czars despite their recently allowing groups with sexually suggestive songs, such as the Rolling Stones and the Black Eyed Peas, to perform in Shanghai. A call to a representative for the rapper early Wednesday went unanswered.

Ludacris Scores That 'Number One Spot,' Hosting and Performing on SNL |
Disturbing Tha Peace chief Ludacris has two reasons to celebrate this week with a new album and single atop the charts.
Release Therapy, the rapper's latest disc, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts, selling 309,000 copies while the album's lead single "Money Maker" featuring Pharrell also scored high, as the No. 1 song on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Mainstream Songs and the Rhythmic/Top 40 charts.
The Neptunes-produced track, Ludacris' fastest growing pop radio single to date, has been selling more than 100,000 ringtones a week and is a top five song at AOL Music.
The album narrowily topped Janet Jackson's 20 Y.O., which was expected to top the album chart but instead landed at No. 2, with 296,000 copies sold.
Release Therapy finds Ludacris exploring topics ranging from politics to child abuse on the "therapy" side, while having fun on the "release" portion with songs like "Girls Gone Wild" and "Money Maker.""To me, part of being a complex person is a balance of many things. On this record I talk about striving, silliness, sadness, sex, and salvation amongst other things," Ludacris said in a statement. "I'm not knocking anybody's hustle, but many rappers only talk about one side of their lives. Personally, I'm trying to be a more three-dimensional storyteller, and I hope that comes through on the record."
The rapper's double No. 1 occupancy is the latest in a string of accomplishments this year for Ludacris, who hosts his own XM satellite radio show, Disturbing Tha Peace Presents Ludacris' Open Mic.
The lyricist earned positive reviews for his recent appearance in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, collected a SAG Award for Best Ensemble, a 2006 Critics Choice Awards for Best Ensemble, and an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporter Actor in A Motion Picture for his role in the Oscar-winning film, Crash.
In addition, his Ludacris Foundation has spearheaded charity efforts concerning cerebral palsy while providing food and shelter to victims of Hurricane Katrina.
With musical, charitable, and acting achievements under his belt, Ludacris has proven to be "a vital member of the Island Def Jam family," according to Def Jam president and CEO Jay-Z."Not only is he a phenomenal artist, he is a visionary businessman as CEO of his Disturbing Tha Peace label," added Jay-Z. "He is one of today's most talented lyricists and a very important piece to why we are successful."
Ludacris will make another small screen appearance Nov. 18 when he hosts and performs on NBC's Saturday Night Live.

Diddy Says "It's A Shock To People That I Write My Own Rhymes." |
Whether it's his previous three full-length albums or countless guest appearances, Diddy has never made a secret about employing ghostwriters.
While he's used less recognizable artists like Sauce Money, Skillz and Smitty in the past, he's enlisted the likes of Common, Nas, Pharoahe Monch and Talib Kweli for Press Play. Diddy also penned some of the rhymes for the first time in his career for the LP."That's just for this album. We haven't really put out that release yet. But it's something that people will know before the album drops. It is a shock and a surprise to people," Diddy said. "A lot of the writers, cause I'm such a perfectionist, were tired of me just saying, nah I don't like that, I don't like that...it's like, 'why don't you try it so you can see how hard it is.' So a lot of things I was coming up with were getting ripped up and thrown out. It was a crazy exercise for me and really helped me get to another level. You can hear, I think in the vocals cause it's another level of belief in what I'm saying."
In related news, the mogul recently agreed to drop his Diddy moniker in the UK as part of an out of court settlement with English music producer Richard "Diddy" Dearlove."In the UK I gotta call myself P. Diddy cause somebody got the name Diddy," Diddy shared. It's just how the game goes. You have to have your name trademarked and if you come late in the game trying to get a name somebody already has, you gotta let them rock with it. Luckily for me I had numerous names so I was able to just switch over to one of the other ones."
Diddy's Press Play is scheduled to hit stores October 17th.

Sparks will also release Don't Call It A Comeback, the first artist mixtape of Diddy's career. In addition to cuts from Press Play, the CD will feature new exclusive Diddy songs produced by Sparks as well as guest spots by Bad Boy's roster. Jim Jones, The Clipse, Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe, Snoop Dogg, Ludacris and others will also land verses to the CD.
Diddy's Press Play is scheduled to hit stores October 17th while Don't Call It A Comeback will hit the streets this month. Stay tuned for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Clinton Sparks and Diddy making the Don't Call It A Come Back mixtape.

Aftermath Hires New Chef - Raekwon |
Wu-Tang Clan rapper Raekwon the Chef has officially signed with Aftermath Entertainment and will serve up his highly anticipated album Only Built for Cuban Linx II under the label founded by West Coast rapper/producer Dr. Dre.
The announcement ends months of speculation as to whether or not the album would be released on the powerhouse label, which is also home to Eminem, Eve, Busta Rhymes, 50 Cent, and G-Unit.
According to a statement on Wu-Tang Clan's official site Wu-Tang Corp., Raekwon is currently in the studio recording new material for the new disc, which is rumored to feature production by Dr. Dre and the RZA and appearances from the Wu-Tang Clan.
Raekwon's solo debut Only Built For Cuban Linx was released in 1995 on Loud Records and set the Hip-Hop world a buzz with songs like "Ice Cream," "Criminology," "Incarcerated Scarfaces," and "Can It Be All So Simple."
His next efforts, however, failed to match the commercial success as its predecessor--the gold-selling Immobilarity was released in 1999 via Epic while 2003's The Lex Diamonds Story was issued by Motown/Universal.
In a recent interview with said, Raekwon talked about the pressure associated with recording the follow-up to Only Built for Cuban Linx.
No release date has been set yet for Only Built for Cuban Linx II.
Representatives for Aftermath Entertainment were not available for comment at press time.
